Compare wholesale matcha prices only after aligning the product specification, order size, packaging and delivery scope. A low price per kilogram is not enough to establish the cost or suitability of an order.
Build a comparable product specification
Begin with the use: a straight tea service, a milk drink, a bakery recipe or a finished retail product. Ask each supplier to identify the exact product code being quoted. Record its origin declaration, cultivar composition where available, harvest or blend description, intended application and required documents. Compare samples of those products rather than relying on photographs or marketing names.
Separate product cost from order cost
Create one line for the powder and separate lines for packaging, transport and any quoted testing or document charges. Ask which costs are included, which are optional and which remain to be confirmed. Use the same destination and quantity for every quotation. If a supplier gives several price breaks, retain the assumptions attached to each one instead of moving the lowest unit price into a smaller order.
Calculate recipe cost with a clear example
For internal planning, ingredient cost per serving can be calculated as price per kilogram multiplied by grams used per serving, divided by 1,000. If the assumed price is JPY 20,000/kg and the trial recipe uses 2g, the powder cost is JPY 40 per serving. These figures are an arithmetic example, not a current offer. Add the other recipe inputs and expected wastage separately. A sample that works at a different dose can change this comparison.
Confirm what the quotation commits to
Request a written product specification, quote validity period, quantity, currency, payment terms and delivery scope. Ask whether supply is for a single order or a proposed repeat schedule. Record who will confirm the cost of any missing document. Keep the approved sample code beside the quote so an attractive price is not accidentally compared with a different powder.
Questions to send with your request
Provide the destination, intended application, first order size, expected repeat volume and packaging preference. State any documents that must be reviewed before purchase. Ask for a breakdown with clearly identified open items. Choose the proposal that meets the agreed specification and budget; do not treat an estimate as an approval of stock, delivery timing or destination compliance.
